through the green

What are small stones?
A small stone is a short piece of writing (any style) that precisely captures a fully-engaged moment for you. The process of discovering small stones is as significant as the finished creation. Searching for small stones encourages you to keep your senses on the “alive and alert” status. Involve yourself with a new set of eyes, ears, nose, mouth, fingers, feelings and mind. This is Mindful Writing at its best.

If we pause in our day, we would find many meaningful moments. Thinking them through and writing about them can be meditative.
I am glad I could inspire you to try this, Deepti. Please share the link when you do or link back to my post or tag me on twitter.

You must try writing ‘small stones’, Priyanka. I was introduced to this concept by another blogger who does month long projects, posting a memorable moment as a small stone everyday.
It calms me down and feels like a meditation.

Yes, Keerthi. It’s a haiku.
But strictly speaking, it’s an attempt at writing a haiku. Even though simple sounding, haiku are very profound and need a balancing act. I am learning how to do it.

I was introduced to this writing style through another blogger who does month long small stone posts.
The original concept was developed by the couple behind writingourwayhome.com.
Small stones can be in any format. Even a short paragraph, even without punctuation. You only have to be mindful and capture small shots of moments.
